FAQ

Clarifying the Vision & Process

Philosophy & Artistic Vision
1. What does "As I Am" mean in your photography?
It is a commitment to authenticity. I reject artificial magazine standards to honor your true self—your real expressions, your story, and your raw human vibration.
2. Why do you specialize in Black and White portraiture?
Black and white removes the distraction of color to reveal the soul. It focuses on textures, contrasts, and the structural depth of the character, making the image timeless.
3. Do you ever take color portraits?
Yes, when color adds significant emotional value to the story. However, my signature artistic intent remains rooted in the power and honesty of monochrome.
4. How do you handle "imperfections" like wrinkles or scars?
I don't see them as imperfections, but as chapters of your life. I use light to dignify these traits rather than hiding them behind digital filters.
5. What is a "Psychological Portrait"?
It is an image that goes beyond your appearance to capture your state of mind. It’s a creative collaboration where we document your inner essence.
6. Can I request heavy "magazine-style" skin retouching?
My approach is focused on reality. While I optimize lighting and contrast, I do not perform heavy "plastic" retouching that alters your identity.
Specialized Services
7. Do you offer Family Portrait sessions?
Yes. My goal is to capture the authentic bond between family members, moving away from forced poses to document real moments of connection.
8. What is your approach to Maternity photography?
I focus on the strength and grace of the mother-to-be. These sessions celebrate the quiet, powerful transition into motherhood through elegant and respectful imagery.
9. Do you provide Boudoir photography?
Absolutely. My boudoir sessions are designed to empower you. It’s about celebrating your body and your confidence in a safe, artistic, and private environment.
10. What defines your "Fine Art Nude" sessions?
These sessions are a study of the human form, light, and shadow. It is a strictly professional and artistic approach where the body is treated as a landscape of textures and curves.
11. Is there a privacy agreement for Boudoir and Fine Art sessions?
Yes. Your comfort and dignity are my priority. No images from these sensitive sessions are ever published without your explicit, written consent.
The Experience & Process
12. I am very uncomfortable in front of a camera. Can you help?
Most people feel this way. My process includes music, constant communication, and a relaxed environment to help the "social mask" fall away naturally.
13. What equipment do you use for your sessions?
I utilize professional-grade gear, including the **Canon EOS R5** and the legendary **Canon 1D Mark III**, paired with a selection of high-performance **Canon and Sigma lenses** to capture every detail of your story.
14. Why do you meet clients in "Comfort Zones" first?
To break the ice. Meeting in a café or on a trail allows us to become partners in the creative process before the camera is even involved.
15. Do you use a studio or natural light?
I work almost exclusively with ambient and natural light. It provides an organic truth and a specific mood that artificial studio lights cannot replicate.
16. What should I wear for a portrait session?
I recommend varied textures (wool, silk, structured fabrics). In black and white, texture becomes "color," adding essential depth to your portrait.
17. Is music played during the session?
Always. I create custom playlists to set the right emotional tone and help you forget the technical presence of the camera.
18. Why are the hands so prominent in your work?
Hands are as expressive as the eyes. They are a direct window into your character and serve as a powerful narrative element in psychological portraiture.
Logistics & Location
19. Where are you based?
I am based on Vancouver Island, British Columbia, serving the entire region from Victoria to Campbell River and beyond.
20. Do you travel for photography sessions?
Yes. Being nomadic and living from my vehicle allows me to meet you in the most remote and beautiful locations across the province.
21. In what currency are your prices listed?
All prices and service investments are listed in **Canadian Dollars (CAD)**.
22. How do I book a session?
You can use the booking form on the "Contact" page. We will begin with a consultation to ensure our artistic visions are perfectly aligned.
23. Can I buy digital files only?
While I provide digital archives, I strongly encourage physical prints. A black and white portrait truly comes to life when it is printed on high-quality paper.
24. Do you offer gift certificates?
Yes. An "As I Am" session is a meaningful gift for anyone looking to celebrate their journey or capture a specific moment in their life.
25. How do you protect my digital files?
I follow a strict security protocol for data backup and file storage, ensuring that your memories are preserved safely from the moment of capture.
